A very Catholic Saturday

Interesting day yesterday. My cousin Hannah was having her first communion and we went to the party afterwards. We decided to skip the communion mass since we didn't think Ellie would make it through that. (Nice excuse, eh?) In my family, it's traditional to serve Salvadorian tamales at a First Communion and my mom had helped my Uncle Rick and Aunt Donna prepare them. They were excellent. My mom had also made samita, which is a streudal-like dessert made with pineapple.

After the communion, we went to the baptism of my cousin Karen's son, Fernando. The party after that was also very cool. It was in Karen's mother-in-law's backyard and there was an outdoor kitchen set up where people were making tacos, quesadillas, and tortas and they had horchata and aqua fresca and a big cooler full of Tecate. It was all very delicious.
