You know when you've been thinking about computers too much when...

My daughter has been having violent coughing fits in the middle of the night for the last three nights. The strange thing is that it only happens at night. She doesn't have a cough during the daytime.

So obviously Vicki and I haven't been sleeping well. Last night, in that weird half-awake, half-asleep state I realized why she's been coughing like that: There's a bug in the code. The cough function -- Ellie.cough() -- which is supposed to expel irritants, has a bug that's causing unintended looping which results in the long coughing fits. I actually saw the code in my head and it seemed like an easy fix.

Early in the morning when I woke up a little more I realized how crazy this was. It can't be a bug in code. It has to be related, I thought, to domains and the fact that we don't have the right domains whitelisted.

When I tried to explain this to my wife (after we'd both just woke up) she stared at me for a moment and said, "What are you talking about?" I had to admit I really didn't know, but it seemed to make sense earlier.

Anyway, Ellie seemed much better this morning but my wife was going to call the doctor and see about getting her an appointment. I'm assuming that the doctor won't come to the same conclusion that I did.
