Back at work

I'm back at the office after a week and a half at home with Vicki and baby James Tristan. They're both doing very well, although Vicki is pretty exhausted. It's kinda nice to be back at work, but it's hard to be away from the baby.

Baby update

The new baby has been home since Monday and he's doing very well. He's eating like crazy, which as you might expect, results in lots of lots of dirty diapers. He's sleeping pretty well, but Vicki and I are still exhausted. Ellie is a great big sister and has been very helpful.

We decided to name him James Tristan Ramsey. We knew we were going to name him "James" for my dad, who wanted us to continue the tradition -- the new baby is the fourth James Ramsey. The middle name is from the character in the book All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot. It's a book I've loved since I was a kid and my favorite character in it was named "Tristan."

We're still trying to figure out exactly what we're going to call him on a day-to-day basis. My mom and sister call him "Jamie", Ellie calls him "Baby James", I've been calling him "Tris" or "Tristan", and Vicki's been calling him "Triscuit." I think we'll just figure it out as we go along.

New baby!

Our new as-yet-unnamed son was born at 1:26 this morning.

We almost didn't make it to the hospital. Vicki woke me up at about 12:30am and said that her water broke. We bundled up Ellie and took her to my mom's house and then I drove like a wild man across town to the hospital. I was running red lights and stop signs like crazy.

Vicki's mom met us here at the hospital and thank god she did. Within minutes of getting Vicki into the bed the baby was out and Vicki's mom ended up delivering him. No joke! He came so fast that the doctors and nurses weren't ready for him. Luckily, her mom is a retired nurse with years of experience. I, on the other hand, was pretty much useless :)

Vicki and baby are both sleeping now. I'll post photos soon.

Hooray! Apple replaced my iPhone!

I took my busted iPhone to the Genius Bar on Friday and a truly wonderful Genius with many large piercings replaced it with a brand new one!

Thank you, Apple. You have restored this fanboy's faith ;)

Ellie asked what happened to my iPhone and after I told her, she said in a sad voice "Poor iPhone."

Wow. It's been two months since I posted here. That sucks, I know, but things have been a little crazy.

Movable Type 4 has been released and we were here late last night getting everything ready. I designed the new
movabletype.com website which looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. The interior pages still need some work, but the homepage turned out pretty nice. It's also got that nice, big web 2.0 footer and lots of rounded corners :)

Last night wasn't without trauma, however. The glass screen on my brand new iPhone (only one week old) cracked when I accidentally bumped into the conference table with it in my front pocket. When I took it out and saw the broken screen I let out an expletive that can't be repeated here.

In family news, Ellie is sick with a fever and cough -- poor thing -- and the new baby's due date is only a month away. We still aren't sure about the name.

From WWDC 07:

BTW, John Hodgman (the PC guy) has contributed some great segments to This American Life.

My favorites:
I'm Not a TV Star, but I Play One on TV. from Episode 329: Nice Work If You Can Get It
Invisible Man vs. Hawkman from Episode 178: Superpowers
Agent to the Stars from Episode 190: Living the Dream
It's Another Tequila Sunrise from from 205: Plan B

Vicki pointed me to this place that sells a giant domestic cat that's been cross bred with an African Serval and an Asian Leopard Cat. It's called an Ashera. Cost: $22,000.

For years this singer was a running joke on Live 105 (SF's modern rock station). Anytime there was some sort of call-in trivia thing, no matter what the question was, someone would call in and answer "Rick Astley".

Forgot to post for 80s music Monday, so I'm throwing out something 70s on a Wednesday.

I noticed that the guitar player on the left (stage right) looks just like the Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer's character) in Spinal Tap.

What am I gonna do with this kid?

We were driving back from my sister's house on Sunday night with Ellie was asleep in her car seat and Vicki and I were discussing the idea of spoiling Ellie for a few months after the new baby is born in September, which is what our doctor recommended.

Suddenly Ellie sits up and says, "Are you going to spoil me?" I guess she just had her eyes closed and was listening to what we were talking about.

This song totally reminds me of playing pee-wee golf in Guerneville as a kid. My whole extended family used to go to Monte Rio (on the Russian River) for a week every year.

'Dream house' collapses on Sunnyside hill

This is 2 blocks away from my house. I didn't hear about it until someone emailed me this story.

This is how it looked when I walked by this morning:
